Google's game-making AI, Project Genie, has caused stocks of some major gaming industry companies to drop significantly.

Google has officially unveiled Project Genie, a generative AI tool that reportedly can create complete video games simply by receiving text commands. This technology uses Genie 3 and Gemini models to produce 60-second interactive worlds.

Market Impact:

The Project Genie tool caused panicked investors to sell their shares, imagining a future where AI replaces developers. Stocks of some major gaming companies plummeted due to the introduction of this tool.

Among the companies whose stock value has decreased are giants such as Take-Two Interactive, CD Projekt Red, Nintendo, and Roblox. Unity's stock was most affected, falling by 20%.

Current Limitations

Project Genie still cannot create a complete game, and its capabilities are limited. For example, if users ask this AI to create a copy of Super Mario 64, they only get impressive visual effects with basic movements and a free camera.

Project Genie even forgets what it previously produced when filling empty spaces, and clearly, many stages of development still remain. Google itself says we are dealing with an initial, experimental tool that is mostly useful for previewing large projects.
